On Spatial Photography

On Spatial Photography

Earlier this week, I was looking for new ways to showcase real estate projects on the web. I chanced upon an app called Fyuse which essentially lets you capture the depth of an object by panning around it. The resulting image can then be viewed from various angles by tilting your phone or swiping the screen sideways. It’s not like a video where the scene moves linearly in time nor a gif where  the image loops back and forth without your control. Fyuses, as what they are called, are photos in space, so to speak. It works best when the subject doesn’t move or only does so minimally, rendering it in a frozen-like state while still maintaining spatial information. I have tested it here and here. The experience does seem nicer on the phone app because of the tilt gesture that adds a more immersive layer to it. Photography is getting more dynamic and interactive and that is definitely exciting.
