On  Loving Vincent

The film’s visuals breathe of a passioned life as pulsating as Van Gogh’s works. It is an artistic accomplishment befitting a genius who had inspired many artists. It equally captures his stylistic progression over the course of his career – characters rendered in the style in which the landscapes were painted in. It is truly a delight to watch. The investigative nature of the story builds up enough excitement yet it is the beautiful frames that leave a lasting impression. No matter what the reason for his death is, it is Van Gogh himself that we end up loving more in the end. Indeed, in his words, “Il n’y a rien de plus réellement artistique que d’aimer les gens”.
